Sometimes the weather doesn't work out in our favor and we have to bail on a float, and when that happens there’s only one thing to do: hop on the ATX Beer Bus for a brewery tour that’s as refreshing as the cool San Marcos river on a hot day! On our last adventure, we took a tour through four of Austin’s finest breweries—ABGB, Nomadic, St. Elmo, and Vacancy—guided by the one and only Fish. Here’s how our day unfolded.

Meet Fish, Our Guide and Beer Guru

From the moment Fish greeted us in the ABGB brewery main hall, where this trip left from, we knew we were in good hands. Her knowledge of Austin’s craft beer scene was as deep as the frothy head on a well-poured stout. Whether she was explaining the nuances between a pilsner and a lager or sharing behind-the-scenes stories from the breweries, Fish made sure we were both educated and entertained.

Stop 1: ABGB – Our go-to friends and some of the best beer in Austin

Our starting location was the Austin Beer Garden Brewing Co. (ABGB), a local favorite known for its award-winning pilsners and live music. We are no strangers here, you can often find us chilling with a pint and chatting with their wonderful staff any day of the week. We were welcomed a tasting of their signature beers, including the crisp and refreshing Industry Pils and the hoppy Rocket 100. The laid-back atmosphere, coupled with delicious brews and tunes, set the perfect tone for the day ahead. Once Fish checked us all in, our true journey began.

Stop 2: Nomadic Brewing – A Journey of Flavors

Next, we ventured to Nomadic Brewing, a brewery that takes inspiration from global travels to craft unique and flavorful beers. From bold IPAs to smooth stouts, each beer told a story of distant lands and adventurous spirits. The cozy taproom and welcoming staff made it a memorable stop on our tour. Fish had a curated tasting menu ready for us, and expertly explained each pour as we learned about the different brewing processes based on the type they are going for.

Stop 3: St. Elmo Brewing – Where Community Brews

Our third stop was St. Elmo Brewing Company, a brewery that embodies the spirit of Austin with its community-focused approach and innovative brews. We sampled a variety of beers, each showcasing the brewery’s commitment to quality and creativity. The lively taproom, complete with food trucks, created an atmosphere that was both fun and inviting. Here, Fish brought out samples of many hop and grain varieties, letting us smell and even taste the raw materials that go into brewing beer. We learned what flavors each imparts and how to identify them in a beer.

Stop 4: Vacancy Brewing – A Hidden Gem

Last but certainly not least, we arrived at Vacancy Brewing, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Austin. The intimate setting and expertly crafted beers provided the perfect end to our brewery tour. From the rich flavors of their dark ales to the crispness of their lagers, each beer was a testament to the brewery’s dedication to the craft.

The ATX Beer Bus Experience

The ATX Beer Bus experience was more than just a brewery tour—it was a celebration of Austin’s vibrant craft beer scene. From the expertly curated selection of breweries to the comfortable transportation and knowledgeable guide, every detail was thoughtfully planned to ensure a memorable day. Whether you're a local looking to explore new spots or a visitor wanting to dive into Austin’s beer culture, the ATX Beer Bus is the way to go.

When We’re Not Floating the River…

Austin is known for its outdoor activities, and while floating the river is a popular pastime, there’s so much more to explore. From hiking and biking trails to live music venues and, of course, the city’s diverse array of breweries, Austin offers something for everyone. So, the next time you're planning a weekend in the Live Music Capital of the World, consider adding a pint glass and hopping on the ATX Beer Bus. Cheers to good friends, great beer, and unforgettable memories!
