Paddle Boarding in Austin Texas

Updated: Sep 25, 2023

Stand up paddle boarding is a must do in Austin Texas. It's one of the few places where the city meets the nature. What's amazing is that you can see the springs, hill country, bats, and the downtown skyline all in one paddle. Ohh yea don't forget about the turtles!

If you're coming into Austin and wanting to get some nature for the day, check out the stand up paddle boarding in Downtown's Lady Bird Lake. Though its a river, we've damned it up at turned it into a lake. Over the years the name of the lake has changed a few times so you might hear town lake and you might hear LBL.

Don't worry about flying in to Austin with youy inflatbale paddle board. There are several rental places in the area. Here are a few options to consider:

  • Rowing Dock: Founded in 1999, and originally developed for sculling, Rowing Dock has since evolved into Austin’s hidden treasure for launching watercraft rentals of all kinds on Lady Bird Lake. Women-owned and operated business is now a cherished resource for kayakers, SUP paddle boarders and canoers of all kinds. Come on down, and see for yourself what folks have been raving about for over two decades!

  • Texas Rowing Center: Also situated on Lady Bird Lake, the Texas Rowing Center offers paddle board rentals, lessons, and guided tours. They have a fleet of paddle boards suitable for all skill levels and provide personal flotation devices (PFDs) as well.

  • EpicSUP: Established in 2011, EpicSUP combines the excitement of paddleboarding and kayaking with Austin's beautiful scenery, iconic lifestyle, and hip culture. Situated on the tranquil and wide expanse of Lady Bird Lake near the Austin Boardwalk’s East end, with gorgeous views, a nearby island, spacious cove, and low water traffic. There's no better place to experience Austin.

  • Live Love Paddle: If You're located on the east side of the IH35, Check out live love paddle. They offer paddle boards and kayaks for singles and doubles. They are also one of our favorite bat kayak tour businesses in town.

  • Zilker Park Boat Rentals: I love this story. "One beautiful spring day in 1969, Howard was driving across the Lamar Street Bridge and was astounded that no one was boating on our beautiful Town Lake (now Lady Bird Lake). So Howard and Dorothy submitted a two page proposal to Austin Parks and Recreation Department to rent canoes on Town Lake and were granted the very FIRST contract of this type in Austin."
